LEGO Star Wars X-Wing Starfighter 75218 Tested and Reviewed

By our senior writer: Ayla Sylte

Today is a exciting day for me because I get to review the LEGO Star Wars X-Wing Starfighter! I am long time this category writer, blogger and reviewer Ayla Sylte and you might know me from some of my other reviews. I've written for example about the Five Nights at Freddy's All-Over Print 16" Backpack by Minecraft and the Stuffems Toy Shop Record Your Own Plush 16 inch Calico The Cat - Ready 2 Love in a Few Easy Steps by Cloudpets or maybe you have heard of the editorial piece I did on the Star Wars The Force Awakens RC BB-8. Anyway, I have quite a lot experience trying out this category and recommending only the best to my readers. Therefore I was really happy when this product came on my path.

Introduction

I've been a fan of Star Wars products1 for years and I was really looking forward to finally trying the LEGO Star Wars X-Wing Starfighter and reviewing it for you guys. I found the best deal on this site on Walmart (You can buy the LEGO Star Wars X-Wing Starfighter here.) and I didn't hesitate a moment. So I reached for my creditcard and bought one straight away. I was glad it had free shipping and 24 hours delivery when I ordered it because I couldn't wait! When my LEGO Star Wars X-Wing Starfighter arrived the next day I ripped open the packaging and was really happy with what I saw. As I said before I'm a huge Star Wars enthusiast but I can be very critical and objective too, especially when writing for my readers. :-) After testing it for about a week now I am confident that I have the authority to write this piece. So read on and I will tell you all about my findings and if you should buy this thing.

Best LEGO Star Wars X-Wing Starfighter 75218 deal

Summary

When reviewing this category I usually begin with a summary, then a compact list of the pros and cons of the product after which you can find the rating and my conclusion and resources. So as you can read in the intro, I am really amazed by the LEGO Star Wars X-Wing Starfighter. Star Wars has really set a new standard with this one. The durability is fantastic, and frankly; it just looks super. I know looks aren't deciding with this category, but it just needs to be addressed. I mean the price Walmart offered was and is by far the lowest so make sure to check them out when you are going to get one. As I have tested some alternatives before, I will say none come close to the LEGO Star Wars X-Wing Starfighter. Just the flexibility alone crumbles all competition and the quality also seems to be top notch. The famous customer service of Star Wars2 is always very happy to help if you have any kind of questions so if you ever run in to something with their products they'll be really supple with helping you find a solution. So just to recap; only positive things to say about the LEGO Star Wars X-Wing Starfighter 75218. Do read till the end tho because you there is a tiny surprise!

Pros

The list of pros of this LEGO Star Wars X-Wing Starfighter is going to be much longer than the conslist and the description3 this site gives already lists them quite well. To quote just an excerpt: "Includes Luke Skywalker and Biggs Darklighter LEGO minifigure pilots, plus R2-D2 and R2-Q2 droids.LEG starfighter features retractable landing gear, an opening minifigure cockpit, 2 stud shooters and 4 spring-loaded shooters, space for a droid, and a new-for-August-2018 lever-activated cruise/attack mode function.Push the model down in attack mode to close the wings.Fit each droid laterally in position (new for August 2018).Extra stickers and tiles let you switch between Luke’s Red Five and Biggs’ Red Three X-wing designs.Also".

  1. The quality is unmatched.
  2. The looks are stunning.
  3. The price of $89.99 is a bargain compared to the competition.
  4. Star Wars is leading the market when it comes to this category.
  5. The durability is great, so it's good for the environment.
  6. No other product coming out in this price range will be comparable for the coming months if not years.

Cons

I had a tough time thinking of cons for the LEGO Star Wars X-Wing Starfighter. Better prices are of course always nice and I don't know if you actually need this luxurious quality4. That's a thing only you can figure out for yourself. However, the list:

  1. Maybe the aesthetics of the product are not your style.
  2. It's a premium product so chances are you don't need this abundance of quality.
  3. The LEGO Star Wars X-Wing Starfighter is loved by a lot of professionals so soon everybody will probably have one.

Best Star Wars product in years

Rating

Considering the points above I can only conclude that the LEGO Star Wars X-Wing Starfighter deserves 5 stars, 10/10 an A+++ and just overall praise5. I've read reviews by people saying that it's a little too perfect and that it doesn't leave room for the competition, but I don't really mind a nice monopoly. And Star Wars sure is heading to become one with this product!

★★★★★

Verdict and Conclusion

This product really will make your life better and will make you a lot happier. (And I didn't even talk about the resale value6!) I've really done my best to be balanced in this article but it turned out to be so positive that I recommend you reading some other reviews, and you'll find out they will tell you the same goody goody story. So I can just say is that I fully recommend the LEGO Star Wars X-Wing Starfighter 75218 to anyone in the market for it. And if you are still hesitating whether you need a new LEGO Star Wars X-Wing Starfighter. Walmart has really made the choice simple. BUY THE PORG

I’ve seen and enjoyed a few of the Star Wars films, but I’m not what some would consider a diehard fan. I mention this only because, Star Wars fanatic or not, this set is well worth adding to your collection! From the interior mechanics of this structure to the exterior detail and design, this build was an A+ for me. The components that make the wings and mouth move were interesting and complex, while the decorative pieces that make up the head and body all come together to make a really fantastic build. For me, the design of this Porg is flawless. I will say that I don’t think this would be a great set for folks who intend to play with the Porg. While this is an extremely solid build, it is probably better suited to folks who collect or just want something that looks amazing sitting on their desk. If you are at all on the fence over picking up the LEGO Porg, I would encourage you to treat yourself. It’s a really fun build that looks great! :)

A Must for any Fan of Porgs

What can I say, I’m a huge fan of Porgs, and I’ve collected various incarnations of them - figures, plush, etc. However, when LEGO came out with a full size Porg sculpt, I knew I had to add it to my collection. The build is very clever and fun. I was worried it might get tedious with all the smaller parts, but it moved along smoothly. I was able to complete it in about 3 1/2 hours. The level of detail, including the feathers, webbed feet, and even teeth, is impressive. The ability to open and close the mouth along with flapping the wings is a nice touch. It looks great on display with my other Porg collectibles. I really enjoy the character sculpts like this one and the BB-8, and I hope LEGO continues to create more of them!

Simply built, good fun model. Looks good next to my BB-8.

IF ONLY

If only this would have been the same size as the R2-D2 U.C.S it would have been brilliant. Is there any reason why it can’t be done Mr Lego ???? It’s a great addition to the new Star Wars collection as it’s something different. The build was easy but enjoyable and if you have young children they will love playing with one but mine are for display purposes and will be buying another 2 to make display look better Be nice to have a Caretaker to add to the display wink wink

Love my Porg!

I really love Porgs, so when I first heard about this set, I knew I had to have it! Even though its not marketed as a UCS set, the information plaque with information about Porgs and the mini-figure scale Porg are nice additions to this set. My biggest pet peeve with this set is the action feature. While the mouth opens and closes nicely, the wings do no flap very well. There's very little movement in the wings, which disappointed me.I expected them to have a larger range of motion, but instead they just barely wiggle. Overall, this is a really nice display set that will look good on the shelf with all your other UCS sets. I can't imagine anyone really playing with it, as it strikes me more a display set. For $80, you get your monies worth. I'm happy with mine!
